I received this letter a few months ago. I spent some time reading and re-reading it. It’s hard to describe exactly what I felt. I guess a sense of emptiness perhaps? I can understand why I should not feel that way, but I did. I know I will always continue to support our soldiers, sailors and airmen, our Singapore Armed Forces and Our Army, The RSAF and The RSN. I continue to maintain my ties with my fellow soldiers, sailors and airmen with whom I’ve had the privilege to serve with over the years. Just last week in Istanbul, I met the Singapore Airlines officer who had been one of my scouts when I was Commanding Officer 3rd Battalion Singapore Guards. We were reminiscing our days in the unit and in particular, our stint in Kanchanaburi, Thailand, when we had our companies ‘attacking’ each other as part of our exercise design. Over the years, I’ve been having various gatherings, meeting my teams from the various commands. We will continue to do so. While we can volunteer to serve beyond age 50, and I have put in my request, much depends on whether there are roles in which we can contribute. I do not believe that they have anything specific in mind. Be that as it may, I’ve pretty much continued with some of my leadership work that I had been involved with while in Our Army. I’ve been meeting with our Battalion Commanders, officers at Staff College as well as WOSPECs since I left in 2011. I’d continue to contribute in this capacity until there is no longer a need to do so. I am proud to have served as a Guardsman all these years. And while I may be statutorily no longer an NSman, it doesn’t change who I am and what I believe in. The reasons for serving have not changed and they are very much the same reasons why I continue to serve today, albeit in another capacity. Thank you to all who serve and who stand guard in order to keep us safe…now and for always. Happy SAF Day! Yang Pertama dan Utama. In today’s digital age, we have lost the art of letter writing and even just hand writing. These are some samples from waaaaaaay back when… previous exhibits from the Anatolian Civilizations Museum. The images with layers, essentially the outer layer is the ‘envelope’ where you p站ert the inner clay mail. Thanks to our Turkish hosts for introducing us to part of their very rich history. #waaah #history #letters#throwbaaaaaack#sosmallhowtoread #impressed

The Agora in Izmir or what was formerly known as Smyrna. Dating from Roman times, this was a gathering place for leaders, judiciary, the religious, market etc for the community. This dates from 4th century BC, destroyed by an earthquake in 178 AD and rebuilt by Marcus Aurelius (he of ‘Gladiator’ fame…sorry!! So shallow I know…??)This was underground and excavated. The place is still being explored by historians and archaeologists. #blackandwhite #image #history#turkey #photo #photography#iphonex #iphoto

Came across this image in #Toledo #Spain folder. taken last year. Alleyways and paths between buildings are always interesting to shoot both because of the subject and form but especially because of the lighting. #photography #photo #image#streetphotography

HUNTER! It’s always exciting to see projects you have been involved with in one way or other coming into fruition. I remember being involved with this way back in 2005-2006 when I was Assistant Chief of General Staff (Plans), otherwise known as G5 Army. It was known as something else back then obviously ? The detailed work was done thanks to HQ Armour, our Weapons Staff Officers, Defence Science and Technology Agency or DSTA, ST Engineering and ST Engineering Land Systems. Still much to do to operationalise it but we are on our way there. Looking forward to seeing it up close as Reviewing Officer at #NDP2019 Preview, and when I visit the participants before the event.
